PeerMark extends a Turnitin assignment, enabling students to peer review the work of others. Peer review helps promote self reflection and critical thinking, and can prepare students to receive constructive criticism that they may encounter in their academic or workplace career.

Step 1 – create a Turnitin assignment

Create your assignment using the Turnitin external tool (LTI) assignment, not the Turnitin Plagiarism Framework.

In Canvas Assignments section:

  • Click + Assignment
  • Choose Submission type > External tool
  • Click Find and choose Turnitin, click Select
  • Click Save*

* Don’t forget to publish the assignment when it’s ready.

Step 2 – enable PeerMark

When your Turnitin assignment is created, you will see the instructor view in Canvas.

Click Enable PeerMark and click Submit

From the PeerMark tab you can provide instructions for reviewers, a marking rubric (on the PeerMark Questions tab) and allocate marks for completing a review. There are also more options under additional settings.

Notes

PeerMark will randomly assign submissions to reviewers according to the number or papers you specify for each reviewer; see the Additional Settings tab. However, if required, you can also manually pair specific students using the Distribution tab. This feature can only find students who have already submitted an assignment.
