Early career development
Teaching Catalyst Programme
The Teaching Catalyst Programme introduces academic staff to learning and teaching practices and policies at the University of Auckland. It is required as part of the continuation process for academics new to teaching at a tertiary level and recommended for all academics who are new to the University of Auckland.
Enrolments for Semester Two 2023 are now open and close on Thursday 20 July.
Further information about the programme is available through Career Tools.
Academic Career Advancement Programme
ACAP is designed to prepare doctoral candidates for a career in academia. Through a series of seminars, candidates explore key aspects of academic life, build interdisciplinary relationships with academics across the University, and have a head start in the academic job market. Candidates are subject to a competitive selection process where priority is given to mid-phase doctoral students who have completed their provisional goals. Tuition is funded by the Academic Career Advancement Award.
Peer review of teaching
To support an application for continuation and promotion, there is an expectation that all academic staff will have their teaching formally observed at least once in the first two years at the University, and that all teachers engage in regular informal observation of colleagues and have their own teaching observed throughout their career.
Our guide for peer review of teaching describes the process and provides suggestions for having your teaching reviewed.
