New Academic Standards for staff

23 January 2024

See how the revised policy impacts the contribution area of teaching.

In 2023 the Academic Standards were amended and now make explicit the expectations with respect to engagement with the TeachWell@UoA Framework. Endorsed in 2020, the Framework continues to support the realisation of the ambitions of Waipapa Taumata Rau and describes what is considered reasonable for all university teachers to be able to achieve. In doing so, it sets out to define a set of baseline or core expectations for teaching, while defining extended capability to capture the excellence that is a feature of teaching among many of our staff.

This comes into effect this year, 2024, and work is underway to ensure colleagues are well supported to meet the renewed requirements through a dedicated programme of professional learning experiences. For a comprehensive understanding of the standards and expectations, staff members are advised to refer to the full policy text, available on the University website.

Dive into page 14 of the Academic Standards PDF for a succinct overview emphasising alignment with TeachWell@UoA Framework and the requirement to showcase core or extended capability.
