Announcing the Curriculum Management Tool

You may have heard that the University is introducing a new curriculum management tool (CMT) that will transform how we handle information on programmes and courses.

Why is it necessary?

At the moment, we do not have a single piece of software to handle the curriculum for all faculties. We use different systems to manage the courses on offer. When changes are made to existing programmes or courses, the systems that students use have to be updated manually.

The new tool will help solve the current problems of having fragmented and inconsistent curriculum information across multiple systems. It will also improve the alignment and visibility of teaching, assessment, learning outcomes, and graduate profiles.

Monthly showcase sessions

These are held on the third Monday of the month, throughout 2024, at 3 – 4pm. The project team will demonstrate the system, solicit feedback, and answer questions.

What will change?

The software, under development by Global IT Factory, will be ‘the single source of truth’ for all curriculum information, simplifying the approval processes and automatically updating the Study Options website and other systems. It will also enable effective curriculum mapping and collaboration, leading to better curriculum design and quality.

The tool will benefit both staff and students as it will save time, increase accuracy, and improve the student experience. Students will be able to better plan their degrees (it will eventually replace Digital Course Outlines), track progress, and develop skills. Staff will enjoy easier processes and clearer visibility when making changes to the curriculum or seeking accreditation.
