Drowning in Canvas course files? UDOIT’s File Review offers a simple solution to declutter your course and boost content accessibility for students.

Imagine you are preparing for a lecture and need to quickly review your course material. You’ve been putting it off because it always involves reviewing dozens of uploaded files. Wouldn’t it be great to simply skim through your Canvas pages instead? And wouldn’t it be great if your student Mei could access the same content effortlessly on her phone during her bus commute, without worrying about excess data usage or file compatibility?

There is a solution – UDOIT’s File Review function helps tidy up your course while improving content accessibility for students. It converts short documents (up to a few pages long) into regular Canvas pages.

Benefits for teachers and students

Converting files to Canvas pages offers several advantages.

  1. Reduced clutter: Fewer individual files mean a cleaner, more organised course structure.
  2. Easier updates: Editing a Canvas page is often quicker than updating and re-uploading a file.
  3. Improved accessibility: Canvas pages are generally more accessible than various file formats.
  4. Streamlined navigation: Students can access content directly within Canvas, without downloading separate files.
  5. Mobile-friendly: Canvas pages adapt well to different screen sizes, enhancing the mobile learning experience. (Revisit also our post on making Canvas more mobile-friendly)

Once a file has been converted into an alternate format, it can be replaced with either the new format file or with a Canvas page.

Pro tip

After converting a file to a Canvas page, it’s good practice to remove the original file from your course. This helps avoid confusion and ensures students are viewing the most up-to-date and accessible version of your content.
