The Curriculum Management System Project Team is pleased to announce the launch of the University’s new curriculum management system (CMS) on 20 November 2024. Phase One of the project marks a major milestone in the team’s efforts to transform how programme and course information is managed.
Why is this change important?
The University has not previously had a curriculum management system. Instead, curriculum information has been manually managed and spread across multiple platforms. Once launched, the new system will act as a single source of truth for programme and course information, ensuring consistency across platforms like SSO|CS9, the University website, and Canvas (once integrations have been built). The CMS will not be replacing the student management system, nor will it contain student information.
What do you need to know
- From 20 November 2024, you can access the new system through the intranet Teaching and research menu, or access the Curriculum Management System.
- Permissions will be set to read only for the first two weeks, to allow users to familiarise themselves with the system, curriculum data and user guides.
- Almost all programme and course information has been entered into the system. Work continues on the programme schedules, and digital course outline content is being loaded as it becomes available. Work will continue on this into 2025.
- The project team is currently working with faculties to determine the best way to progressively roll out the functionality and ensure that the curriculum is reviewed for accuracy.
- Once the 2025 curriculum has been finalised and reviewed in the system, new curriculum or changes to existing programmes and courses will be managed through the system. This includes the regulations and schedules for programmes and course titles, prescriptions and requisites.
- Quick reference guides for all of the activities to be performed in the system can be found via the CMS user guides.
- You can book an individual support session using this link: On demand CMS support.
What is still in transition
- Please continue to use current processes for digital course outlines or programme marketing content. The CMS team is working towards surfacing this information in a future phase of the project.
- The 2025 course and course outline data is being updated with the available DCO data. The team will confirm when it has been fully updated.
- Programme schedules are still being manually entered. This activity is expected to continue into 2025. Please contact your programme portfolio manager if you want to make a change to programme schedules. If necessary, the project team can prioritise the entering of information.
- The Academic Programmes Office (APO) is working with faculties on related processes and guides, and will be available to support users.
What is coming in 2025
- A new Online Curriculum Catalogue which is expected to improve how we update and display curriculum information that is currently available through the digital course outlines, Calendar and programme web pages
- Improved capture of specific information about timetabled courses
- More advanced curriculum mapping
- Additional course and programme data
- Integrations with other systems, including SSO | CS9, University Data Warehouse and Canvas
