Supervision: Managing productivity and motivation for supervisors

The School of Graduate Studies facilitates workshops for research supervisors at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.

In an already high-stress, performance-driven environment, the role of a supervisor is a complicated one to manage. There are many things that can slow our progress and that of our candidates—mental and emotional, as well as environmental.

We will explore motivation from a different angle and explain how to build a scaffold to help students structure their knowledge in an effective and usable way. Key topics include:

  • Managing your own productivity, including routines
  • Leading and motivating candidates
  • Helping candidates to build their own mental scaffolds

You will learn about tools and techniques to optimise your time for success. Upon completion, you will receive a guide outlining the key topics and strategies.
