Supervision: Introduction to research supervision at UoA

The School of Graduate Studies facilitates workshops for research supervisors at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.

This session is required for all supervisors who have not previously supervised a doctoral candidate to completion at UoA or elsewhere.

The supervision of research candidates is a rewarding and challenging element of a researcher’s career. Begin by gaining an understanding of how to guide doctoral candidates successfully through their programmes and foster their development as researchers at UoA.

With guidance from experienced guest supervisors, we will discuss how to:

  • Establish yourself as an active member of supervision teams
  • Clarify expectations of the supervisory relationship with candidates
  • Recruit and select applicants for a good fit
  • Guide candidates through their programme’s key milestones and support their broader development as researchers

Upon completion, you will receive an overview, links to key policy documents and essential resources to support supervisors. Don’t leave it until you are asked to supervise, keep on top of supervision accreditation and register now.
