Supervision: Developing doctoral candidates’ critical thinking: A practical guide

The School of Graduate Studies facilitates workshops for research supervisors at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.

Dr Maree Davies, Senior Lecturer, Learning, Development and Professional Practice has conducted multiple research projects in critical thinking. She has developed a critical thinking model called Street Smarts with Dr Patrick Girard, which values a person’s street experiences and cultural identity and incorporates the rigour of the cognitive, ethical and metacognitive aspects of critical thinking.

Maree will present the model and demonstrate practical ways of developing doctoral candidates’ critical thinking throughout their candidature.
