Supervision: Supporting research students through human research ethics processes

The School of Graduate Studies facilitates workshops for research supervisors at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.

This session helps supervisors develop an understanding of the research ethics approvals process so they can pass it on to their students. We will talk about your role in navigating the ethical approval process, explain some of the main factors that hold up the approval process, and discuss ‘top tips’ for success to support students with a streamlined application. We will also cover the review process, why applications get pended (or are not placed on the agenda for consideration), and provide examples to promote discussion.

At the end of the session, supervisors will learn what triggers an application going down the ‘full review’ pathway, rather than the low risk or expedited review pathway.
