Designing AI agents within Canvas for teaching: A live demonstration of Cogniti

Tuesday 17 February 2026, 12–1pm

Presenters: Dr Guy Bate and Dr Nuddy Pillay

This presentation introduces Cogniti, a platform that enables educators to design and deploy purpose-built AI agents embedded directly within Canvas. Rather than relying on generic GenAI chat tools, Cogniti allows teaching staff to create customised agents grounded in course materials, learning outcomes, and existing assessment structures. Drawing on 2025 pilot work conducted in UABS, the session will explore how teaching staff have used Cogniti to experiment with different models of AI-supported learning, feedback, and student support in real course contexts. Attendees will gain insight into the pedagogical possibilities of course-embedded AI, considerations for responsible and effective design, and the kinds of teaching challenges these agents can help address.

The session will be held both in person and online.

Venue: Sir Owen G Glenn Building, Room 321 (260-321), City Campus (Google map)
