Communication to Students
All communication will go through Canvas Announcement or University of Auckland (UoA) email. Please check your email regularly, so you do not miss out on important updates or additional resources posted by teachers or your peers. Students control their individual notification setting preferences, so make sure to have Canvas notifications turned on for your active courses. Expectations for Students
Time Management
- This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week on this course.
- Learning Activities: There is a 1-2 hours of preparation required before attending the 2x 2-hour laboratories every week.
- Self-Directed Time: The remaining 4 to 5 hours should be devoted to self-directed research and completing assignments / exam prep.
Attendance
- Attendance is mandatory for all scheduled laboratories [or tutorials]. Learning success highly depend on engagement, so please try and attend most lectures and tutorials.
- If you are going to be absent from class, please email your course teachers to discuss your situation to receive assessment advice or alternative tasks to catch up.
- Please do not come to campus if you are unwell. When you are well again, watch the recordings and view the online content to catchup.
How to find your way around Canvas
Canvas menu on the left navigation panel:
- Home tab in the left navigation panel leads to the course landing page. It contains important course information and links to get started.
- Modules is where you can find general course information (the Welcome Module) and week-by-week course content such as resources, lecture slides, readings, learning materials or worksheets (if applicable).
- Syllabus page outlines important course information taken from the digital course outline (DCO).
- Assignments provides a schedule of assignments grouped by weightings and type, and links to relevant policies.
- Reading Lists contains all readings, essential and recommended, that you need for the course.
- Panopto Video is the university repository for lecture recordings and any pre-recorded presentations, here is where you find the course recordings.
- Grades shows your marks or points gained for individual assignments and the final grade at the end of the course.
- Learning Essentials links to self-help learning resources and workshops on academic skills development (facilitated by the library).
